Director of Economic Development Position Information

Overview
Lexington County, SC is seeking an experienced Director of Economic Development to join and lead their team’s efforts to recruit new businesses and industries to Lexington County as well as to support the growth of existing businesses and industries across the county.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops, organizes, implements, and administers the content, activities, and programs of the Economic Development Department
  • Works with Administration, County Council, State and Local Stakeholders to promote the development of new and existing industry in the county.
  • Develops and creates collateral marketing materials that foster interest in the county.
  • Ensures content in the web-based systems is accurate and relevant.
  • Participates in trade missions both domestically and internationally to build brand awareness for the community.
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities to attract potential businesses to the county; develops and presents incentive packages to entice potential businesses to locate within the county.
  • Fosters the development of the communities’ workforce by working with the various educational stakeholders, both primary and secondary, post-secondary and technical college institutions.
  • Manages Economic Development Department staff; mentors, coaches, and develops staff.
  • Attends County Council meetings; interfaces with the Economic Development Committee and Administration.
  • Manages departmental budget to include developing the annual budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working within Economic Development
  • Preferred certifications include: SC Certified Economic Developer (SCCED), Economic Development Institute (OUEDI), and Accredited Basic Economic Developer’s Course.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to understand incentive statutes, ordinances, financial instruments, and legal documents/contracts.
  • Must have comfort speaking publicly and have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

County Council will make a competitive salary and benefits offer commensurate with the selected person’s experience and education. Lexington County offers an excellent benefit package that includes comprehensive health insurance as well as inclusion in the State of SC Retirement System.
